Cochin Airport - Seaport Highway

Connects the New Cochin International Airport with Cochin Seaport by a new road of 30 kms.
Passes through Cochin Special Economic Zone, Industrial Areas of Cochin and Kalamassery Connecting HMT, FACT, Kochi Refineries Ltd. and Various Oil Terminals at Irumpanam.
Total investment of the project is Rs. 1400 million as per the estimate prepared in 2003.
 
 
 
The Project is proposed to be take up in a Phased manner as follows.
    Phase - 1
 
Development of 10 m carriage way for 13 KM between HMT and Karingachira including construction of ROB at Irumpanam yard and ROB at CRL Junction. Estimated cost Rs.350 Millions. This phase was completed in May 2003. Actual expenditure of the project is Rs.234 million.
    Phase - 2
 
Development of a 10m carriage way between HMT and Cochin International Airport and up to Kariyadu in NH 47 and From Karingachira to NH 49 Bypass. Estimated cost Rs.1050 Millions (2004) .Land acquisition for this phase is in progress.

The construction of Phase - 1 of the project from Karingnachira (Tripunithara) to HMT (Kalamassery) commenced in May 2001.
And was completed in May, 2003.

Feasibility Studies
Kottayam - Kumarakom - Cherthala Highway(Tourist Highway)
     
28 km road connecting Cherthala in NH 47 and Kodimatha (Near Kottayam) in M.C.Road.
Passes through Kumarakom which is a well known tourist destination in Kerala. Speedy access to Kumarakom from Kochi will promote tourism.
Connects the City of Cochin with Thekkady, another world famous tourist Destination, by the shortest route.
Total investment cost is Rs. 2200 Million (2003 estimate).
The project is divided into three phases.
Phase - 1
Phase - 1 envisages the construction of the 14.5 km road from Kodimatha (MC Road) to Kavanar.
Phase - 2
Phase II envisages construction of the 14 km road from Kavanar to Cherthala (N H 47).
Phase - 3
Phase III envisages the extension of the road from Kodimatha to K K Road. The survey is in progress.



Munnar - Kodaikanal Highway

Direct Road Link between two popular hill stations, Munnar and Kodaikanal.
Proposed road connects Vattavada (near Munnar) and Kadavari in Kerala - Tamil Nadu border. Length of the proposed Vattavada - Kadavari Road is 22.37 km.
An extension of the above road from Kadavari to Kilavari in Tamilnadu (4.5 km) is also proposed.
 
Proposed road reduce the travel distance between the two hill stations to 116km, thereby saving a distance of 82km .
 
Provide connectivity to the unimproved and unconnected rural community between Vattavada and Kilvari, improving the living standards of the people.
 
Estimated cost of the project is Rs. 942 Million (2003 estimate).
  M/s Mecon Limited has completed the feasibility study and submitted the final report.

West Coast Highway from Ponnani to Calicut

A two lane Highway connecting Ponnani (Malappuram District) and Vengalam (North of Kozhikkode).
Reduces the travel distance between the two major cities, Cochin and Calicut by 25 kms.
An alternative to N H 17 which is of poor geometry and highly congested with heavy traffic.
 
Minor Ports of Ponnani and Beypore gets connected to Cochin and Calicut by the shortest route.
 
Total length of the proposed road is 70.4 kms.
 
Estimated cost of the project is Rs. 3401.4 Million (2003 estimate).
